mapping the body, embodying the map
is a study of embodiment based on the relationship between the body and the psycho-geographical influence of the buffer zone in Nicosia, the last divided city in Europe. This Thesis project focuses on the process of embodiment at the specific location while interrogating how we perceive or conceptualize geography bodily. This project is questioning of how the psycho-physical experience of the border is embedded in one's behavior and memory, and on the other hand is constructing an experiential mapping of how the body can be used to measure, archive and memorize the border. This research aims to investigate the border of the artist's native city within the walls of Nicosia, as a topographical frame for the body, and opts to rethink the border as a transformable object/subject through the use of artistic research and live performance.
