mapping the body
by Christina Georgiou

“Mapping the body along and across a dividing line
A story that unfolds through a map, a journey, an action
A displaced praxis of the body, on the body, for the land
A body that remembers and reexperiences
A corporeal taxonomy into a topographical transformation.”

After researching and realizing a series of performance interventions at the border of Nicosia, the last divided city in Europe, this project is moving to Helsinki for a live performance. Based on the experiential material gained during the research process, but also from the remembrances that were constructed through the physical and mental actions, a new performance is shaped. The border line which is the main focus of this project will be mentally transported in a blank black-box space at the Theater Academy in Helsinki and there the body will transform and translate the border line anew. Embodied memories will motivate the body in order to activate a live installation where the audience can move through and experience during and after the live performance.

  1. Dear Christina,

I didn't find a direct contact in this page so I'm writing this comment (which you can delete after reading).

I recently came across your work which I find very interesting and coherent and am asking for permission to make a post about it, since you have this copyright notice.

I have a blog with a good amount of visits, mostly about photography but sometimes, because of my particular interest in performance, showcasing this art form as well.

Hope you find it useful for you and give me permission.

    The blog is http://nihilsentimentalgia09.wordpress.com/
